Easy Stretch Frame and Print

I’ve been on the hunt for weeks (maybe months) for the ‘best’ thing to hang above our lil’ guy’s crib. Something safe, colorful, and bold, and most importantly inexpensive.

After coming up empty handed I thought I would run the DIY route. A month or so ago I sent dear hubby to pick up a few yards of fabric at Ikea. Along with my must haves he also picked out two yards of this colorful Fredricka tree pattern.

I’m not sure why I hadn’t tried it on for size before, but after removing the existing shelves and décor we had hung and duct taping the print above the crib for giggles I was sold.

My initial thought was to frame the fabric, but after a quick test run, it was a bit too busy took away from the fun whimsy print.

I love the end result! Safe, colorful , fun and CHEAP, super cheap!

The Easy How-To….

Materials:

1”x1 ½” wood trim cut to size. My frame measures 4’ x 3’

1” corner braces (or if you prefer to nail, vs. screw) a few nails and wood glue

Fabric

Staple Gun

Drill and drill bits to make your life easier (if your running the screw and brace route)

Small saw to cut the frame pieces, or your measurements and friendly sale associate

Total cost for my project - $13.00

Instructions...

Cut the wood trim to your desired frame size

Build your frame, securing the corners with corner braces or wood glue and nails.

Give your fabric a quick once over with a hot iron, to wipe out any creases or folds. Position the fabric over the frame to your liking, and staple away (on the backside of the frame, pulling the fabric taut as you go).

Really, truly, it can’t get any easier!
