FONT-abulous Inspiration

A few weeks ago iDiY shared the amazing images and inspiration above.

Recently David Stark Design was approached and asked to create a glamorous evening a glamorous evening celebrating the 125th year anniversary of the Metropolitan Opera. Details here.

His ‘predicament’ - How does one design an event on this scale, for such a momentous occasion and make it appropriate for today’s realities? Lavish is out, of course, but SPECIAL IS ALWAYS IN!

“Fonts were our muse. Exploded, cropped, varied in type and color, the array of graphics not only provided a wonderful walk through the Opera’s historic identities in print but it transformed the tent into a three dimensional collage. Elegant banners gently fluttered above vases and luminaries wrapped with glowing prints from every time period. It didn’t really matter if you could read all of the text. We often cropped at such extreme angles to simply celebrate the sheer form of the lettering and push it into the realm of pattern.”

Okay, so throwing a party at the Met is not happenin' in this kid's life...but! What great inspiration for those closer to home parties and events. Who needs dripping crystals and exotic flowers flown in when we all have FREE FONTS at our fingertips?

This is beautiful. I am not very good with fonts or paper but maybe one day. I think this would look gorgeous using black and white or sepia photos also. I do love the mass of it. I like over the top when it is done right.
Also, I am having a ladies Mai Tai Monday get together in 1 1/2 weeks. I have ideas but would like more. Any thoughts? More on my last post.
Thanks

Wow...beautiful!. I love fonts, in fact it usually takes me twice as long to finish a project because I'm taking so long to find the RIGHT font! :) I've never thought of doing a party with this type of theme.
